Kiskeam Rose Bud is blooming for festival

- SHEILA FITZGERALD

WHILE most little girls around the country are just settling down for their school holidays, it’s all systems go for eight years old Megan O’Shea from Kiskeam, who has just been chosen as one of the Rose Buds for the forthcoming Rose of Tralee Festival.

67 little girls were selected from a total of 350 countrywide, and Megan has been paired with Aisling Murray who is the Newcastle/Gateshead Rose

Megan will be like a real life Princess during the Festival week - she will attend the qualifiers in the Dome on the Thursday night when the Roses who will go through to the finals are chosen.

On Sunday, she will take centre stage during the Parade on Aisling’s Float, and will also take part in numerous exciting events throughout the week.

Megan’s mum, Tracey, explained to The Corkman how it all came about. “My cousin Mairead O’Sullivan, who lives in Cordal, saw the application form in The Kerryman and suggested that Megan should apply. She did not know I had sent in her name, and we just told her when Anne Marie of the Festival Committee rang to say she had been chosen” Treacey said.

The Rose Buds were presented with their sashes and Rose of Tralee crest badges at a function at Crag Caves, Castleisland, last Saturday night, where organisers gave them their schedules for the festival.

Needless to say, Megan is on cloud nine. “I’m really excited, I can’t wait for the festival. I love my sash and my badge ... I must go shopping straight away,” she said with a huge smile.
