Finn’s jewellers call time on business

ONE of Mallow’s longest serving retail outlets closes its doors in the coming days after almost 70 years of business in the town.

The announceme­nt last week of the closing of Finn’s Jewellers on Main Street sent shockwaves across the community and further afield.

Glowing tributes and memories by customers were posted on social media minutes after the announceme­nt. Many wrote special messages of purchasing and wearing engagement and wedding rings, and other personal items while the generation­s of the Finn family were remembered for their outstandin­g service to so many customers down through the years.

Jackie Finn first opened for business in O’Brien Street in 1947 where Bambury’s Turf Accountant­s now operates. Jackie was assisted by his (Bowen) took over the operation, assisted by their son, David.

Barry and Irene have two daughters, Karen who lives in Wexford and Ada who resides in Ballincoll­ig. Irene told from many other areas down through the years, and thanks them all for their loyalty and friendship.

Finn’s Jeweller’s, once with its famous clock on the front of the building giving the time of day to Mallow shoppers, will be sorely missed as yet another legend in Mallow business calls time.
