No rest for our young players in busy season

ALL age groups are active, with training, matches and blitzes coming thick and fast. Below is a sample of our activities.

U-16s: A League match against Canovee on Sunday Morning was cancelled.

U-14s: Macroom played a practice game against Aghinagh in the Tom Creedon Park on Frday evening , the 9th of July. Macroom had to ‘ loan’ Aghinagh some players as they had only 10 of their panel present.

A close contest took place and some Macroom players did well.

Feature of the game was the excellent debut of Kristoff Mora; his athleticis­m and hunger for the ball were a joy to see. Darragh Kiernan, Dean Granville, Jack Sexton, David Hunt, Shane Sweeney and Cormac Buckley also played well. Macroom next play Passage in TCP next Fri. at 7.00 p.m.

U-13s: Macroom hosted Clondrohid on the 4th of July in a B League game in the Tom Creedon Park.

It was a fine night for football. The match was evenly contested but Clondrohid proved to be a little bit better on the night. The final score was Clondrohid 3-11, Macroom 2-9.

Best on the night for Macroom were Liam Holland, Jack Sexton, Kieran Doody, Mark Hunt, Dean Granville, Ben O’Connell, Gerry Kelleher, Brian Healy and Darragh Kiernan. U-12s: Macroom played Clondrohid recently played U-12 B league fixture in the Castle Grounds.

Macroom started the brighter, scoring first with a point; however shortly after conceded a soft goal – a long ball went directly into the net.

In response, Macroom notched up some scores from Mark Hunt, Robert Lucey and Brian Healy, and went in at half time a point up – 1-4 to 1-3. Clondrohid started the better in the second half, notching up 3 goals that were long balls that went straight into the net.

Neverthele­ss Macroom finished gamely, but Clondrohid won the contest on a score-line of 4-6 to 1-5.

U-10s: On a warm evening at the castle grounds the U-10 team began itsr League campaign against Aghinagh. The new league format allows for 9 -a -side games to be played.

As both clubs had sufficient numbers, they fielded two teams. Both teams competed strongly and showed great effort.

The skill levels have visibly improved over the past few weeks, with further improvemen­t expected as the guy’s play more matches with each other. Results: Macroom 1-4, Aghinagh 4-4 and Macroom 4-6, Aghinagh 3-8.
