Healthy eating showcase at the Mercy Centre in Mallow

THE Avondhu Blackwater Partnershi­p has become the only community group in Cork to receive funding under a scheme aimed at encouragin­g healthier food choices.

The Partnershi­p was one of 13 bodies from around the country to receive funding from Safefood, the body charged with promoting healthy eating in Ireland, under their (2016-18) Community Food Initiative (CFI).

The programme has been specifical­ly designed to positively impact the eating habits of families, particular­ly those living within low income communitie­s by improving their culinary skills and increasing awareness of healthier food options.

Over the three-year course of the initiative the Partnershi­p will receive annual funding of up to €30,000 from Safefood to establish, manage a sustain their project.

On Monday, September 5 the Partnershi­p will host a showcase event at the Mercy Centre in Mallow to highlight the range of supports available under the initiative.

Issues addressed will include raising awareness of healthy eating habits, budgeting, meal planning skills, cooking, preventing wastage, food safety and hygiene.

Admission to the open evening will be free and all are welcome to attend.
