THE Cloyne Diocesan Youth Service (CDYS) in Mallow is encouraging young people from the area to sign up for some of the exciting initiatives taking place at ‘ The big Blue Cube’ over the coming months.

The venue will swing back into action after the summer break next month, with weekly Coder Dojo classes recommencing on Saturday, September 3.

Run and taught by volunteers, the initiative opens the doors to the world of computing offering people the chance to learn how to code, write programs, develop websites, apps and games.

September 29 will also see the return of the hugely popular Music Project at the centre, which will run each Monday throughout the year.

“We encourage all youths with a passion for music including rappers, singers and musicians of all standards and skills to take part in this programme,” said a CDYS spokesperson.

“This project is a fantastic opportunity for youths from 13-18 years of age to develop their performing, song writing and recording skills. They will have the chance to showcase their skills at the annual Irish Youth Music Awards. We are looking for volunteers over the age of 18 with a musical background to help out.”

A raft of other programmes will also get underway at ‘ The Big Blue Cube’ during September covering a range of interests including sport arts and crafts and yoga. The Youth Café will also reopen, offering people a chance to chill out with friends in a safe and supervised environment.
