Huge crowd come out to remember Haulie
TRY as it may, the notoriously fickle Irish weather did not deter hundreds of people from coming out to celebrate the life of a young Glanworth man who lost his life in a tragic accident threeyears ago.
The third annual Haulie Murphy Memorial saw almost 200 tractors and trucks take to the highways and byways of North Cork in memory of “tractor mad” Haulie who this year would have celebrated his 18th birthday.
Haulie’s younger brother Dean, who recently got his driving licence, headed up the cavalcade of tractors while his father Pat lead off the more than 20 trucks that took part in this year’s event.
As with the last two runs, proceeds from the 2016 run will be donated to charity, with this year’s beneficiaries being Fermoy Hospital and the Cope Foundation.
Organising committee member Ciaran Roche said it was great to see so many people come out to be a part of the event and to remember a young man who meant so much to the local community.
“It was a great day and the feedback we got from all of those who took part and came along to watch and enjoy the pre and post-run entertainment and craic was excellent,” said Ciaran.
“Our sincere gratitude and thanks go out to all of those people who braved the elements to be a part of this special occasion and to all of those people who gave up their time to help organise the run,” he added.
