Hurlers in relegation play-off

-

KANTURK travel to Mourneabbey to face Tracton on Friday, August 26 in the Cork Premier Intermediate hurling relegation play off, with a 7.45pm start.

Kanturk went under to both Cloyne and Kilworth in the opening rounds of the championship white Tracton, for their part, lost out to Ballinhassig and Mallow to find themselves in the same position as Kanturk.

While the loser won’t face relegation this year, if the loser ends up as one of the last two teams after the relegation play offs two years in a row, demotion to the lower grade is a possibility for the 2018 season.

Kanturk haven’t struck a sliothar in anger since their disappointing loss to Kilworth on 24th June and will be hoping for a clean bill of health and a morale boosting victory on the night. U21 HURLING: Kanturk and St Marks come face to face in the Duhallow U21Hurling Championship Quarterfinal on Monday 29th August at Newmarket with a 7pm start.

Kanturk lost to Robert Emmetts first time out and recovered with a victory over Croke Rovers in round 2 to qualify for the quarterfinal. INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL: When the draws for the quarter finals of the Cork county Intermediate football finals were made in the past week, Kanturk were paired with Cill na Martra for the second year in a row.

Kanturk will be hoping to prepare well for the test and have lined up a home county division 3 league tie against Rockchapel on Wednesday 30th August with a 7pm start. While Kanturk are at the top of division 3 league, Rockchapel still have strong ambitions of bidding for a top two league place and with both sides keeping an eye on championship tests a week later, a good contest will be in the offing. NIGHT AT THE DOGS: Kanturk GAA ran a successful night at the dogs on Friday last 19th August at Curraheen Park. There was a good crowd in attendance to see the races on offer, among them memorial races honouring the late Frank Healy, Ann Murphy, John O’Keeffe, who all contributed in various ways to Kanturk GAA over the years.

A special thanks to the families and businesses who sponsored races, and advertisements in the race booklet and those who both sold and purchased tickets for the event.

Also a word of deep gratitude to the organising committee for their commitment and drive over recent weeks, which insured the event would be a success. SENIOR FOOTBALL: In Senior football, fresh from their comprehensive victory over Douglas, Duhallow will meet Bishopstown in round 4 over the weekend of 27/28th August; the winner playing Avondhu or Newcestown in the quarter finals.
