The Corkman

WESTERN DUHALLOW

-

FINAL

This Saturday is Duhallow Junior ‘A’ football championship final day with two teams from the western end of the division, Knocknagree the holders and neighbours Cullen, making the long trip up north to Rockchapel for a contest eagerly awaited among the footballing community in Duhallow and over the border in East Kerry.

Knocknagree are led by team captain and midfielder Danny Cooper, while Cullen corner-back Darragh Twomey will lead out his squad which like their opponents include a number of experienced and younger players.

The most qualified of these is Knocknagree’s long serving, versatile and reliable Jersy Carroll, a player certainly deserving of an accolade from the GAA’s highest office for his sportsmanship and loyal service to his club.

On the Cullen side the O’Sullivan brothers are stalwarts and have been pillars on the team for many years.

However, the main pillar within the group is Club Secretary and selector Liam Hickey, whom it all revolves around both on and off the field of play. As the final time is 6.30pm it will also be a busy evening for the farm relief services with ‘’relief milkers’’ in big demand as both clubs hail from a dairy farming area.

Patrons are advised to travel early to the venue where there will be ample parking adjacent to the grounds. The host club, Rockchapel, will leave no stone unturned to ensure the smooth running of this long awaited battle.
