LISCARROLL
10KM ROAD RACE
The Tom Fitzpatrick Memorial 10km Road Race held on Friday night last, August 19 was an outstanding success. With a yellow weather warning for the evening, we were blessed with a 4 hour dry spell which enabled the course to be laid out and signposted and the runners, spectators and officials to complete the job, without rain.
There were competitors from Athletic clubs and unattached from all over Ireland, including Dublin, Enniskillen and Omaagh. Out of a field of 115 runners, 114 finished the course with the first person home in 34 mins 50secs and the last in 1 hr 6 min 20 secs.
The event could not have taken place without the help of many people, the runners, local people, stewarding, water stations, refreshments in Community Centre afterwards.
Thanks to Collins Bros for providing the lead car, Civil Defence for medical assistance and safety car, to the local Garda Ollie Keneally and Tadhg Fitzpatrick in sweep up car, for the duration of the race.
Thanks to this newspaper who kept our race in the public eye on the lead up to the race and for weekly athletic reports.
A special thanks to John Walshe from Eact Cork AC for his help with entries and results afterwards and to Cork County Board AAI webmaster John Quigley.
