First days at school
PRISTINE uniforms, shiny shoes, and brand new school bags were the order of the day on Wednesday as lots of little people headed off for ‘ big’ school for the very first time.
Dromagh National School, where six new pupils started, had the edge, having opened on Tuesday, so when The Corkman called in they had already been at school for a whole day and a half.
Darragh McAuliffe, son of Principal James McAuliffe, said he was delighted that his teacher, Mrs Sheehan, and SNA Siobhan, were nice.
Meanwhile, at Ballydesmond National School, there were ten new arrivals, all old friends meeting up again after spending their tiny tot years at Tír na nÓg Creche.
Three little girls started school in Kiskeam - Ellen O’Keeffe, May O’Mahony and Órlaith Cahill. Ellen told The Corkman how she had a brilliant time during the summer.
“We went to the chocolate factory and saw loads of chocolate,” she said, with a smile. “We were able to taste it and there were marshmallows in some of it.”
May was looking forward to “starting working at lessons”, Teacher Mrs Herlihy will be happy to hear, while for Órlaith Cahill it’s a whole new world - her family returned home to Kiskeam having lived in Fort McMurray in Canada.
At Knocknagree School, Teacher Carmel O’Sullivan was settling in seven new pupils, who were all chat for The Corkman. Kate O’Rahilly explained that she was working on her arts and crafts during the summer. “We went to Portugal, it was very hot. We went in the swimming pool but I had arm bands on,” she said.
Teegan Walsh was eager to go painting, while Dan Donnelly, who is the only boy in the class, said he was looking forward to playing outside and meeting new friends.
