Clondrohid GAA

-

Clondrohid U11’s travelled to Carrigadrohid to play Canovee in their last league game of the year.

After their fine win against Ballinora last time out, hopes were high of another win. They had a good strong team out and began very well with the two midfielders scoring good points early on. The whole first half was nip and tuck and Clondrohid went into the break down by two points.

The second half was a much different story. Canovee began strongly and seemed to dominate throughout the rest of the game. Canovee scored a few goals at the end to skew the score line somewhat but they were indeed the best team on the night.

Even though Clondrohid finished the year with a loss, valuable lessons were learned and the future looks bright. Thank you to all the parents/family who stayed to support and to all involved with the team.

U15 County Championship Semi-final in CIT Grounds

Aghada 0-18 Clondrohid 1- 9 .

A scoreline can tell you so much but it can’t tell you that this gallant Clondrohid team gave everything they had it pursuit of victory, or that after getting off to the worst possible start conceding seven points in the first 15 minutes they outscored their opponents for the remainder of the match 1-9 to 0-11.

It can’t tell you of the brilliance of Conor Murphy in goal whose display drew praise from all present or the tenacious cousins Jerh Kelleher & Jerome Healy in defence or the three Conors, Lucey, Dineen & O’Leary who despite conceding six inches to their markers never took a backward step .

It can’t tell you how Ciaran O’Leary brought his team back in to the game with three points inside five minutes in the first half and went on to outfield the Aghada midfield for the rest of the game aided by the athletic trio of Fionn Heffernan, Alex Kelly & Eddie Duggan. Neither can it tell you of the panic in the Aghada defence every time Cathal Creedon or JK Long ran at them resulting in free after free as they were dragged down or of the sterling contributions of Mike Buckley David O’Connell & Luke Duggan .

As already mentioned, Clondrohid were down seven points before the 15th minute as Aghada won every break and displayed great accuracy before Clondrohid scored five on the trot (3f) from Ciaran to leave it 7 to 5 at the short whistle.

Aghada took up the running on the resumption with three on the trot but Clondrohid were not going away and chipped away with two frees from Ciaran and a super score from Alex from 40 m.

Aghada scored three points to go six clear but then a great run from Eddie deserved a goal but as Cathal was about to shoot he was group tackled and the chance was lost.

From the kick out Ciaran gained possession and ran through the Aghada defence and passed to Mike Buckley and he nearly burst the net but Aghada scored last three points.
