and the former created an opening for Ciarán O’Sullivan to score a point in the 22nd minute as the swaying of fortunes continued the Timoleague side scored two points to regain the lead, but Ballincollig replied with an all important goal.

Peter O’Neill made a determined run goalwards and his effort for a major was saved but Rob Bourke snapped up the rebound to billow the Argideen net. A Conor Sexton point consolidated Ballincollig’s position but the arrears were reduced to the minimum when Michael O’Connell and M.J. O’Connell registered minors for the Timoleague men prior to the short whistle.

The second period saw a return to action for Ballincollig by Cian Dorgan who was obviously introduced in an effort to bring about some improvement at centre field and he made some impression.

A good third quarter by the Ballincollig team overall saw them leading 1-14 to 1-9 entering the final quarter. A major by Brian Deasy for their opponents gave them cause for anxiety however and there were only two points separating the sided five minutes from full time.

Conor Sexton’s point from a 65 eased the pressure on the mid Cork side however and they were on the offensive in the dying seconds when their opponents found themselves a man short after John Deasy was presented with a second yellow card.

Similar to all his championship outings this season Liam Jennings was a major figure at full back with other defenders Brian Cotter, Ciarán O’Sullivan and Conor Sexton worthy of mention.

Ballincollig were in trouble at centre field but the good work of their half forward line where David Bowen and Eoin Hegarty were prominent compensated.

Dylan Harrington was an excellent goal-keeper for Argideen while Joe Murphy was an effective full back.

Cathal O’Donovan dominated at centre field right through the hour and John Michael O’Callaghan and Brian Hennessey contributed most in attack.
