Ballyhooly finish strong to secure JAHC semi-final spot

Kilshannig improved greatly and they went on a scoring spree having some excellent points by Liam Casey, Darragh O’Mahony, Roddy O’Mahony, Kevin O’Flynn and Tadhg O’Sullivan. They had their goal

in the 15th minute when Roddy O’Mahony gave a perfect pass to Kevin O’Flynn who soloed through and made it it 1-6 to 0- 7. Both sides exchanged points with Ballyhooly doing well at midfield. At the break Kilshannig led 1-11 to 0-11.

On the resumption good play by Liam Casey led to a fine Darragh O’Mahony point. Ballyhooly had their goal in the 33rd minute when Denis Kiely worked well for Fergal O’Connell who netted. Good play by Trevor O’Regan led to a Kevin O’Flynn point 1-13 to 1- 11 after 38 minutes. Ballyhooly introduced the injured James Roche at full forward with Kevin Kiely going to full back. Rapid points by Shane Murphy and Jerry O’Connor (free) had them level 1-13 each.

The winners keeper Patrick O’Connor made some excellent saves. The turning point in the game came at the end of the third quarter. Kilshannig worked a three man movement but a timely intercepti­on by Sean Linehan saw James Roche gain possession and score a great point. Ballyhooly led for the rest of the game. Kilshannig got back within a point in the 53rd minute when Diarmuid O’Sullivan scored a fine point 1-16 to 1-15.

The winners showed the greater determinat­ion and teamwork. They had four points in quick succession by Jerry O’Connor (3) and Darragh O’Reilly that had them 1-20 to 1-15 clear at the end of normal time. Trevor O’Regan had an injury time point for Kilshannig. Ballyhooly will now meet Ballygibli­n in the semi final on September 10 in Kilworth.
