Castlelyon­s hold out to take Under-16 ‘C’ HC County title

Kenny for a square infringeme­nt. In the closing moments David Morrisson and Mark Lenahan (free) exchanged a point that had the winners 1-10 to 1-3 clear at the break.

Buttevant did well in the third quarter. The introducti­on of J C Guiney proved beneficial. Guiney had an early point before James O’Brien placed Mark Lenahan for a goal. In the 44th minute Buttevant had drawn level when J C Guiney worked well for Mark Lenahan who blasted his third goal that had the sides level 1-10 to 3-4. Buttevant seemed to have the momentum, however it was Castlelyon­s who improved greatly. Conor McCarthy pointed a ‘65’ and Jack Kenny followed with a quick goal 2-11 to 3-4. Roy Bowles saved well from Conor McCarthy. David Morrisson pointed and another goal by Jack Kenny opened up an 8 point lead 3-12 to 3-4.

Jack Kenny moved back to defence for the winners in the last 10 minutes and was in great form. McCarthy pointed a free. Buttevant had their 4th goal in the 52nd minute when Paddy Behan with a free found Michael O’Neill who goaled from close range. Buttevant missed two more goal scoring chances before James Kearney increased the winners lead with a point 3-14 to 4-4. Buttevant had their 5th goal when Mark Lenahan soloed 60 yards and goaled from close range cutting the lead to four points 3-14 to 5- 4. The Avondhu side came close to a 6th goal when Mark Lenahan put Paddy Behan through who placed Michael O’Neill who was denied by Gavin O’Neill with the rebound going out for a ‘65. The ‘65 by Paddy Behan was sent over by Michael O’Neill. In injury time David Morrisson struck his 4th pointed free with Castlelyon­s holding our for a deserved win. After the game Peter Watson on behalf of the Rebel Og Co Board presented the cup to the winning captain Peter Roche.
