Casey eases her way to yet another Croke Park final with victory over Kilkenny’s McMahon

THE 2016 60x30 All-Ireland Open Ladies and Mens Singles semi-finals were decided at Croke Park Handball Centre on Saturday last it proved to be another successful outing for the reigning champion Ballydesmo­nd’s Catriona Casey who eased her way into another final with a very comfortabl­e win over Kilkenny’s Ciara Mahon.

There was never any doubt about the result Catriona was always in control. In the second semi-final Limerick’s Martina McMahon also had a comfortabl­e win over Kerry’s Ashley Prendivill­e to set up another Cork v Limerick Ladies Final, which is a repeat of the 2015 decider.

That final is scheduled for Croke Park on Saturday September 10.

In the Men’s semi-finals also played on Saturday Eoin Kennedy, Dublin and Robbie McCarthy,Westmeath qualified to face one another in the final which is also scheduled for Croke Park on Saturday 10.

In Munster 60x30 adult championsh­ip at the time of writing just a few finals are to be played to complete the adult championsh­ip programme. This Thursday in Bohermore at 7.30 in an all Limerick Junior Doubles Final John Noonan and Christy Enright face J P O’Connor and Mike O’Toole, and again in Boherbue tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30 start Boherbue pair Shane Flynn and Daniel Moynihan take on Limerick’s Keith Heelan and Patrick Frawley.

Over the weekend the spotlight will switch to Munster 60x30 Girls and Boys Juvenile championsh­ip with both quarter-finals down for decision Waterford take on Kerry while Tipperary play Clare, Cork and Limerick have a bye to the semi-finals with the Cork side sponsored by Compunet IT Solutions due to play the winner of Kerry v Waterford on the following weekend September 9/10 while Limerick will face the Clare v Tipperary winners also that weekend, Also on the weekend of September 23/25. The Cork teams in U-12/13, U-14/15 and U-16/17 sponsored by Mallow Credit Union will be out in 60x30 Munster Inter County Team Championsh­ip.

Last weekend at Broadford venue Munster 60x30 Mixed Doubles Blitz Competitio­n was played with the Cork players involved giving a good account of themselves. In the under 12 Section Hayden Supple, Fermoy, partnering Sarah Walsh, Mallow were the outright winners. In Under-13 Ballydesmo­nd pair Keelan Murphy/Emma O’Riordan filled third spot with only a few aces separating the top three as Broadford took the spoils. In Under-14 Section Conna pair Sam Dunning/ Cliona Dunning filled the runner-up spot losing out by just a few aces.

Going forward Munster One Wall championsh­ip has been scheduled for Conna Complex on weekend of October 15/16, county championsh­ips will have to be completed at least one week prior to Munster finals, All-Ireland Finals are scheduled for second weekend in November.
