Keeping council with Rathmore the number one priority…

-

NO matter where you go in the world, there’s absolutely no place like home and this is one of the core objectives of Rathmore Community Council as they look to bring heads together to come up with a steady flow of ideas to help make Rathmore the best it can be. The Rathmore community consists of many individuals prepared to work hard and fight for their community to get the job done and it’s a place where no sooner does one community project near completion when another idea is already in the pipeline.

The old saying ‘if you want something done, do it yourself ’ is one very much adhered to in Rathmore as they look to stay on the front foot when it comes to what Rathmore needs most. The Rathmore community is a very proactive one and whether it’s in sport, pantomime, tidy towns, neighbourhood watch, community care, or a thriving youth club over at Teach Iosagáin, they do everything with 100 percent pride. Rathmore Community Council Chairman, Brian Kelly, gives us a brief overview of what’s needed in Rathmore with the future in mind.

“We’re hoping to get proper traffic calming in the town as well as better lighting. Basically the town needs a major overhaul as regards infrastructure with everything from public footpaths to pedestrian crossings. It’s all in the pipeline and we must get this work done soon so we’re lobbying hard at the moment. We need one big push to get a whole new facelift for the town as we’ve been looking for this for years.”

Brian continued. “We are continuously improving areas in the town and in spite of the scarcity of resources, we continue to do our best. New fencing will be erected at the mill cross shortly and the playground, which has been a great success and is in constant use, always needs to be maintained and kept safe. We are awaiting the annual report from the Tidy Towns and this will give us details of how we can progress with much needed and overdue improvements. We are asking that the community row in and drive forward with the recommendations from this report. We have roughly 15 or 20 core members in Rathmore Community Council with many more volunteers rowing in when needed. Depending on what topics are up for review we meet once every six weeks and we’re always looking for new members and people are more than welcome to get in touch.”
