BOWLING NOTES

Denis Horgan Bowling Club-Jackie Daly CompetitionsKelleher and Aaron Mackey had a double win over Dean Sexton and John Breen, in the opening score for the last shot. A bowl of odds was the dividing margin in the second. Danny Murphy and Paddy O’Keeffe beat Maurice Cashman and Donal Cashman in a last shot play off. Danny Murphy had a bowl of odds to spare over Maurice Cashman in a good competitive score. into a four points to two lead.

Kilbrin settled and gained parity before the goal spree began, first Eoin Sheahan hit the back of the net after a great save from Banteer goalkeeper Denis Roche to keep out a great effort from Daniel O’Sullivan. Any reprieve from Banteer was quickly cancelled when Liam Daly gathered a ball in the goalmouth and while surrounded by numerous Banteer backs Daly did the impossible and blistered the back of the net with a great shot, this was followed by a third goal when again Daniel O’Sullivan’s effort rebounded to David O’Sullivan who hit the back of the net with the follow up leaving Kilbrin leading by 3-8 to 0-8 at half time.

The second half was a lack lustre affair with both teams adding some points but the goals had the damage done and ran out comfortable winners by 3-14 to 0-15. Kilbrin were well prepared by manager Eddie O’Sullivan and his selectors Pat Breen and Ivan I Sullivan who left no stone unturned to bring back the silverware to Kilbrin.

Goalkeeper Paudie O’Callaghan once again had a great game between the posts and was well supported by Cillian Buttimer, Tom O’Reilly and captain Wesley Corkery, the haphazard backline of Daniel Sheahan, William Egan and Con Carroll did a great job to keep the Banteer half forwards at bay. The centerfield pairing of Michael Lenihan and David O’Sullivan scoring 1-3 between them giving a vital edge to the team.

The half forwards Daniel O’Sullivan, Niall Field and Stephen O’Reilly along with the full forward line of Liam Daly, Eoin Sheahan and Shane Crowley caused endless problems for the Banteer rearguard. Kilbrin were fortunate to have a very strong bench and were able to call on William Heffernan, Noel O’Callaghan and Terry Cantillon who all proved that they are more than capable of holding their own in the team.

Panel of players are: P O’Callaghan, C Buttimer, T O’Reilly, W Corkery, D Sheahan, W Egan, C Carroll, M. Lenihan, David O’Sullivan,
