BREXIT UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT AT IFA SEMINAR
UNLESS you have been living under a rock for the past few months you will be aware that another new word has entered the English lexicon.
While most of us will be aware of the word Brexit, the term coined for the withdrawal of Britain from the European Union, there has been much speculation about how the move will impact on Ireland and in particular our agricultural sector.
A seminar set to take place at the Mallow GAA Complex in Carrigoon next Monday evening will attempt to answer the many as yet unanswered questions surrounding the whole Brexit issue and decipher what impact it may have on the Irish farming community.
Hosted by the North Cork Branch of the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) the seminar, entitled ‘Brexit – The Challenges and Opportunities’ promises to be a hugely informative forum for discussion and debate.
The IFA have invited a high-profile panel of speakers to address the gathering including Agriculture Minister, Michael Creed; Munster MEP’s Sean Kelly, Deirdre Clune and Liadh Ní Riada and Michael Stapleton, chair of the IFA’s Farm Business Committee.
As well as outlining and discussing the various challenges that farmers as food producers will face, the seminar will also examine the possible opportunities that may arise for Irish agriculture post-Brexit.
The organiser and chairman of the seminar, John Magner, said the event will be of huge interest to farmers from the North Cork region.
“We are looking forward to a big turnout at the meeting, which will give a good insight into the changes that will come about following the exit of our closest market and neighbours from the European Union,” said Mr Magner.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will commence at 8pm and conclude by 10.30pm.
