Cope Foundation to benefit from vintage jaunt
NEW FERMOY VINTAGE CLUB TO HOST FIRST RUN
THE newly launched Fermoy-Blackwater Vintage Club will hold its inaugural run on Sunday, September 25 in aid of the local branch of the Cope Foundation.
Nostalgia will be the order of the day, with more than 30 vintage cars and bikes set to take to the highways of North Cork, Waterford and Tipperary for the event.
Spokesman Pat Cunningham said the new club, which already has more than 20 members, differed slightly to other local ones in that it caters solely for cars and bike enthusiasts.
“The other vintage groups in the area are more focussed on agricultural machinery. We are more about road machines, with some of our members owning a number of vintage cars and bikes. This will be a great opportunity for them to show these off on the roads,” he said.
The run will have two tailored routes, the first being a 90km jaunt for larger cars and bikes that will take participants from Fermoy through Rathcormac, Midleton, Tallow, The Vee and Kilworth before returning back to Fermoy.
The second route for smaller and older machines will go straight to Tallow where it will join the main run.
Registration will take place in Fermoy Town from 1030am to 11.40am, with the machines setting off at noon. There will be refreshments and entertainment in the park after the run, with spot prizes including for best car and best bike.
Mr Cunningham thanks local Cork County Council staff , and in particular its Fermoy district officer Pauline Moriarty, for their help and allowing the club to use the park as their base for the day.
“Funds raised through the run will go towards covering the cost of a new disability bus for the Cope Foundation. The event will give people the chance to meet with members, enjoy the car and bikes on show and support this worthy cause,” he said.
