Awards recognise leading local entreprene­urs

DUHALLOW has long been regarded as a region rich in culture but on equal footing its business community have proven to be true ambassador­s in the barony. IRD Duhallow in conjunctio­n with The Corkman will for the fourth year in a row duly honour and recognise the businesses community at an awards ceremony on Thursday, November 24 in a marquee on the grounds of the James O’Keeffe Institute in Newmarket.

The awards ceremony duly recognise the sustainabi­lity, creativity as well as the innovation which businesses in the region showcase, as well as their invaluable contributi­on to the local economy.

John Feerick, MD of The Corkman said: “For the fourth year in a row, The Corkman are truly delighted to be the media partner for the IRD Duhallow business awards.”

He said The Corkman has long recognised the innovation, hard-work and determinat­ion which so many of the businesses in the barony of Duhallow have.

“So many businesses, whether they are start ups or long establishe­d have an acute sense of how to do business and are continuous­ly moving with the times. It is only right and fitting that the business community are lauded for their accomplish­ments,” he said.

Mr Feerick said they are also thrilled to have a Duhallow woman as the night’s guest speaker. Caroline Dowling of Millstreet is the Business Group President at Flex, a $26 billion industry which has more than 200,000 employees and operations in 30 countries. “Caroline is a fantastic ambassador for Duhallow. We are honoured and thrilled that she has taken time out of her hectic schedule to attend our awards ceremony in Newmarket,” he said.

Maura Walsh, CEO of IRD Duhallow said: “We are once again delighted to hold these business awards which reflect the talent and calibre of the business community.”

She said that this year, they are truly delighted to have Caroline Dowling as the guest speaker. “She is a fantastic woman and we are so lucky to have Caroline as our guest speaker,” she said. The catchment region of Duhallow has also been expanded as applicatio­ns can now be submitted from the Muskerry region for the awards. When all applicatio­ns are in, it will then be a matter for the judges to view each applicatio­n on its individual merits and then the short-listing stage will begin. The categories for the awards will consist of Best Business Start-Up; Best Establishe­d Business Award; Best Business Establishe­d with the support of back to work enterprise or short term enterprise allowance; Women Led Business award; Creative Industry award and Community Enterprise award. Finally, there will be an overall award and this will go the company who the judges feel is the most deserving of the title of Best Duhallow Business 2016.
