Healthy eating for all ages and no lack of fun either
MACROOM Castle Grounds will be buzzing on Sunday, September 25, with Healthy Eating tastes for all ages at Macroom Community Leisure Centre from 1-5pm. There will be activities for all ages, with cookery demonstrations to suit all tastes, ample seating and entertainment for young children. There will also be an exhibition of healthy eating posters produced by primary school children from Macroom and surrounding areas from 1pm to 5pm.
South and East Cork Area Development (SECAD) and Safefood have teamed up to organise this community event in conjunction with Macroom Food Festival. The event will show simple and fun ways to ensure that all family members are encouraged to prepare and enjoy healthy, nutritious food on a budget.
Parents will be delighted to see healthy eating food demonstrations which will encourage even the fussiest of young eaters to enjoy healthy nutritious meals as dietician Anne Griffin will demonstrate and provide many tips
The leisure centre will provide the backdrop for fun filled activities for children young and old while parents can relax and take in the tips and information on healthy eating promoted by Safefood and South and East Cork Area Development. These will include face painting, an art corner and an exercise corner for children.
Local second level students from McEgan College have taken up the challenge to show how they can promote healthy eating amongst teenagers supported by dietician Anne Griffin.
The active retired in Macroom have been equally busy, with some great ideas and practical tips for how to ensure that their active lifestyle includes healthy, nutritious meals which are varied and taking into account changing tastes as years pass.
Doors will open at 1pm and there will be a fun packed afternoon right through to 5pm, with cookery demonstrations for all ages, ably assisted by Macroom natives of all ages, so come along and meet with dietician Anne Griffin.
Many primary school pupils from schools in Macroom and surrounds are already preparing posters for the Healthy Eating art exhibition which will be held at the Community Leisure Centre on the Sunday afternoon, September 25.
Primary school children are welcome to design and enter an A4 entitled ‘A Healthy Me is…..’ and return to SECAD Poster Competition, SECAD office, Macroom E Enterprise Centre, Bowl Road, Macroom by Monday, September 19.
Prizes will be awarded for three categories, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. SECAD provides a free and confidential one to one employment support service from the SECAD office at Macroom E Enterprise Centre each Tuesday, all enquiries are welcome and appointments can be booked with Frances Doyle on 021 4613432.
