Cork’s camogie dream ends to purring Cats
CORK’S quest for All Ireland Camogie honours ended in bitter disappointment on defeat to the Kilkenny cats in Croke Park last Sunday.
Rebel supporters travelled in numbers to Croker with the hope of completing a memorable double yet their hopes were extinguished by the black and amber ladies. Disappointment all round, for the players, management and fans, at the end of a long day, all were shattered by the outcome.
The Cork senior chased three in a row, and for a little over an hour’s hard, fast, exciting and often tense endeavour, the supporters caught and pucked every ball only to come up short.
At the full time whistle, the dream had died of making it three titles in a row yet Cork supporters acknowledged Kilkenny were far hungrier that ultimately bridged a 22 year gap without victory.
“Those Cork girls owe the game nothing given their success but on this occasion, there could be no dispute that the Kilkenny girls were the better side”, said a supporter.
Meanwhile the Cork intermediate side lost out on an opportunity to begin the day on a winning note, only to hand over the advantage to Kilkenny in the second half.
Meanwhile Cork supporters look for a better return on Sunday week, Cork face Dublin in the All Ireland Ladies Senior Football Final.
