Goulding on fire as Éire Óg edge out Bantry for semi-final berth

-

Goulding has had a quite enough season by his own standards, last Saturday night he was sensational.

An unstoppable personal tally of 1-12 with only 0-5 of that frees, Goulding gave a masterclass that all in attendance could only marvel at.

Others to shine on the night for the victors were Davy Sheehan at corner back along with his colleague in the other corner, Cian O’Mahony, with John Mullins and Kevin Hallissey also contributing well to the effort.

For the vanquished side it was left to Ruairi Deane to keep the board ticking over, a challenge he took on well bagging 1-5 during his shift.

This game was always going to be a close run thing, as the sides had showed the previous week however after 60 minutes of action it looked as if the West Cork side were going to advance.

Four points up with added time commencing all the clever money was on Graham Canty and his band of merry men getting through however a late smash and grab effort from the men in red and yellow, and in particular from Goulding – who first fisted over a point before then gaoling meant this one would go the distance.

Éire Óg looked just the better side in the extra 20 and managed to hold despite a valiant challenge from an impressive looking Bantry Blues.

Éire Óg will need to up the ante again next Saturday as they face up to what will be an altogether different opponent in the last four. Fermoy have shown really well this year and will fancy their chances of making it to the showpiece game ahead of an Éire Óg side that still need to show their best form.
