Momentum continues for Meelin, Millstreet and Knocknagree

-

THE race towards the latter stages to County Championships is maintained this Saturday where Meelin, Millstreet and Knocknagree bid to maintain Duhallow interests.

Meelin coach Ronan Dwane faces his home club Aghada in the Co. IHC quarter final in Mourneabbey. Todate its been a productive campaign for Meelin yet with growing injuries, they face a difficult assignment against familiar opponents Aghada who have held the upperhand in previous meetings.

Meanwhile Millstreet and St. Finbarrs meet in the Co. IFC at Coachford to revive memories of the 2014 Co. JAFC final when Millstreet rallied strongly during the closing stages to snatch a single point win.

It’s three months since Millstreet’s last outing, again injuries surround the involvement of some key players and nothing more a solid performance will suffice if they are to advance to a semi final against Rockchapel.

Knocknagree return to the Co. JAFC on a quarter final clash against Muskerry champions Kilmurry in Millstreet. Claiming back to back Duhallow titles, Knocknagree survived some stern tests enroute where their experience from the past three seasons told.

In that time span, from 16 championship tussles, Kocknagree have incurred three defeats, Millstreet(2014 final), Bandon (2015 Co. semi final) and Cullen (2016 round 1). Again Cullen provided the opposition in last month’s decider where Knocknagree turned the tables to land the silverware.

Kilmurry return as Muskerry kingpins after ousting reigning holders Iveleary last weekend. Their previous outing at county level saw Kilmurry engaged in a terrific duel with Millstreet in the 2014 semi final where the latter finished strongly.

Tussles of this nature are difficult to nail, Knocknagree will need to be at the top of their game to succeed and set up a meeting against Ballyclogh or the Carbery champions in the penultimate hurdle.
