Rodney’s Glory as well as traditional jibs, reels, slip jigs and horbnpipes have almost disappeared as have the traditional dancing teachers. Sarah and Maurice O’Keeffe have the authentic steps of these dances as well as the authentic steps of the Connemara sean nós and can teach them.
All these dances with their own tune have history behind them that need to be preserved. For example, the Garden of Daisies goes back before the great Famine when potatoes were the sole diet of two fifths of the popularion of Ireland. Rodney’s Glory comes from Eoghain Rua O’Suilleabhain and his forced exile in the British Navy and his involvement in the Battle of the British warship, The Formidable under the command of Vice Admiral Rodney in 1783. The steps of this dance depict the different parts of this battle. Further information from 087 2205555 or email bruachchnacarraige@hotmail, com
