READY TO PLOUGH ON
Carrying Duhallow and East Cork hopes in the All-Ireland Ploughing Championships in Offaly next week are Lisa Ring, David Murphy, Dermot O’Flynn (Banteer) and Jamie Hayes (Kilbrin Club)
IT’S all systems go for the All Ireland Ploughing Championships in Tullamore next week.
Cork East are well represented by participants drawn from Banteer, Kilbrin, Two-pothouse, Bartlemy, Ballyfeard, Watergrasshill, Imokilly and Gortroe.
Ploughing legend Dermot O’ Flynn (Banteer Club) will compete in his 29th All-Ireland, Dermot represents Cork East in the Intermediate Conventional Class on Tuesday. With 28 entries in this class, it is the largest class to be held over the three days.
Dermot will be driving his Ford 4610 and Kneverland plough. On the same day, Kilbrin club’s Jamie Hayes from Newmarket will compete for the title of Senior U 21 Conventional Champion. Jamie ploughs with his McCormick tractor and kneverland plough.
Wednesday sees David Murphy from Banteer Club will represent Cork East Ploughing and Avondhu Macra as he competes in the Macra Conventional Class.
On the same day, Tulylease’s Lisa Ring representing Banteer Club, will take on the challenge of Queen of the Plough. Billy Tarrant will help Lisa on the day as she closes the furrow with Eamonn Tarrant’s John Deere 2140 and her kneverland plough.
Twopothouse’s Philip Cotter will compete in the Vintage 2 Furrow Mounted Plough Class with a Ferguson 35 and Ransome TS.59 plough.
On Day 3, Thursday, Niall Ring, Kilbrin Club, will compete for the first time at national level. Niall competes in a special new Novice Conventional Class at Senior level.
The Delaneys from Ballinagree will be out in force at this year’s championships. Jeremiah will compete on Tuesday in the Under 40 Horse Plough Class. Father and son, JJ and Jeremiah will both compete in the Senior Horse Plough Class on Wednesday. On Thursday they will work together to complete in the Special Horse Plough Class.
