‘One-off’ Ballyvolane House scoops coveted Georgina Campbell award

- BILL BROWNE

THE multi-award winning Ballyvolane House near Fermoy has added yet another string to its impressive bow after scooping yet another prestigious national accolade.

Set amid stunning scenery close to the River Blackwater, the country house has been included on numerous respected Irish and international hotel and food guides.

It has also won numerous awards from respected publications such as the Good Hotel Guide (Best Fishing House) and ‘Field to Fork’. ‘Best Innovation’ and ‘Guest Experience’ Gold Medal awards.

This week it emerged that Ballyvolane House, which is run by Justin and Jenny Greene, who took over from Justin’s father in 2003, has done it again winning the ‘Outstanding Guest Experience’ category in the annual Georgina Campbell Awards.

In their award citation the guide said Ireland was “blessed with uniquely satisfying places where beautiful and enriching surroundings combine with an owner who is exceptionally gifted in hospitality and conveys that gift to everyone associated with the business.”

Waxing lyrical about Ballyvolane House and its surroundings, the citation described it as a “one-off ” saying a stay there was “always a treat”.

“It’s an especially rewarding experience thanks to the natural hospitality of the hosts who have worked so hard to make it seem easy creating a relaxed ‘can-do’ atmosphere and a youthful sense of fun,” it read.

“Hip is not a word much associated with the traditional Irish country house, but its sits well here. An absolute one-off, this place is seriously deserving of its standing as one of Ireland’s most desirable multi-generational destinations.”

Dubbed ‘Ireland’s Original Hospitality Awards’, they are the only independent initiative of their kind in the country and as such are hugely respected within the wider hospitality industry.

A point not lost on Jenny Greene, who told The Corkman that everyone at Ballyvolane House was “delighted” at the latest accolade and the resounding approval that judges from the Georgina Campbell guide had given to the venue.

“The Georgina Campbell Awards have been around for a long time and are really valued within the industry. We are honoured to be counted among the winners as it reinforces the fact that we are doing a good job here,” said Jenny.

Since taking over the running of Ballyvolane house from Justin’s father in 2003 the couple have built on its reputation, due in no small to the team of staff that they have build around them.

“We were blessed to be handed this stunning property, but you need to have the service to back that up. Thankfully, we have a wonderful team behind us and this awards is a great boost for everyone here,” said Jenny.

“To receive such high praise from industry experts is a great thrill for everyone here, particularly coming as it does at the end of what has been another very busy season for us,” she added.
