Hurlers complete league on winning note

KANTURK Intermedia­te hurlers rounded off their county division 2 league commitment­s with two victories in recent days.

On Thursday last, 22nd September, Kanturk travelled to Mourneabbe­y to face Fr O’Neills and after a close first half, led by 1-8 to 0-10. The exchanges were close in the early part of the second half before Kanturk took command of the tie in the closing stages to run out winners on a 2-18 to 0-15 score line.

On Sunday, 25th September, Kanturk rounded off their league commitment­s with a home tie against Castlelyon­s.

Kanturk opened brightly and were 1-7 to 0-5 to the good after 12 minutes, further embellishi­ng the score line in their favour, leading by 3-08 to 1-5 after 20 minutes and taking a 4-10 to 2-07 lead into the interval.

Kanturk maintained their grip on the game in the second half to clinch victory on a 5-16 to 2-13.

INTERMEDIA­TE FOOTBALL:

Kanturk have their final two league games in the county division 3 league down for decision over the coming weekend.

First up is a home tie with Aghabullog­e on Friday 30th September at 8pm at a venue to be finalised. Then on Sunday Kanturk travel to Glanworth for a 12 noon start. It’s not certain that both games will go ahead, so please consult social media for updates.

Having gained promotion from division four 12 months ago Kanturk will now face off with St Michaels in the division three final in the coming weeks with both teams gaining promotion to division two for 2017. U16 FOOTBALL: Wolfe Tones (Kanturk) recorded a 3-09 to 1-2 home victory over Mitchelsto­wn in the Rebel Og North U16 ‘A’FL semi final, played at Kanturk’s Freemount Rd pitch on Sunday last 25th September and now face Granard Gaels in the final with the date and venue to be finalised.
