Kildorrery hurlers beat Eire Óg to reach last four

stage looked like they had what it took to win.

While the rain held off for this game, heavy rain before the tie meant that the ground was less than ideal for hurling however credit to all on the pitch they managed to provide a very competitiv­e fixture, with plenty high quality scores and no shortage of talking points.

For the victors, the hugely talented Peter O’Brien led the line superbly. From his berth at number 11, O’Brien caused no end of problems all day for the vanquished men, scoring 11 times, seven from placed balls, and linking superbly with his fellow attackers.

Centre back Michael Walsh also impressed with David Kelly, William Fuohy and Andrew O’Brien all doing their bit for the win. James McEniry in the Kildorrery goal also had plenty to say in this win with a couple of very good and important saves, when goals looked to be the obvious outcome.

For Éire Óg, Daniel Goulding, Paul McDonagh and Kevin Hallissey all did well with McDonagh in particular shining during the all-important second period.

Kildorrery got the better start with a quick hat trick of points however Éire Óg responded well and were level by the 20th minute.

Kildorrery bagged the next 1-5 making the most of the wind to their backs. Eamonn O’Connor’s goal on the stroke of the break the most crucial contributi­on of the first 30. (1-11 to 0-6 at the break).

Éire Óg battled back after the interval with three points from Paul McDonagh which were followed by a goal from the spot by Kevin Hallissey but O’Brien at centre forward was immense hitting the last four points to push his side clear.

Kildorrery will now take on Glen Rovers for a place in the showpiece game and considerin­g what the north Cork side have to offer they should relish this opportunit­y to make it to the division’s final challenge.
