Lismire tackle Glenlara in Junior B decider

-

A novel Duhallow Junior B Football Championship Group 2 Final brings together Glenlara and Lismire to Newmarket on Saturday.

Mixed fortunes surround both sides over recent years yet the pair enter this decider with impressive credentials. It had been a barren few decades for Glenlara, striving to emulate previous successes, particularly, back to back championship wins from 1981/82 followed by two outright victories in 2011(Lyre) and 2013(Lismire).

From this campaign, Glenlara claimed a narrow win over Freemount with Joe Collins, Tim Collins and the Fitzpatricks central to their game. And powerful second half display secured Glenlara victory over Dromtariffe in a semi final. Quite simply as the game progressed, Glenlara emerged in a different class to control key passages of play with John Cronin amongst the goal scorers.

Lismire gathered morale boosting win over Rockchapel the positive play of Mark Field, Peadar Cronin, Damien Finn and Stephen Jones inspired confidence. Into a semi final, a late blitz allowed a clinical Lismire overcome St. Johns, two well taken goals from Finn and Paddy Sheehy proved the difference between well matched sides.

The expectations are for a fierce battle for supremacy to unfold between two enthusiastic sides. Its been all of 35 years since Lismire sampled a football championship title, their cause now helped by involvement of Tullylease players.

With experience at their disposal, Glenlara have enjoyed two outright wins in the past five years. However Lismire are sure to be equally eager in a bid to return to winning ways where football silverware would be welcome.
