Kilshannig have impressive win to reach minor ‘A’ final

The winner’s first goal came in the 13th minute when Darragh O’Sullivan worked well for Diarmuid O’Sullivan who put his side 1-5 to 0-2 clear. Kilshannig were well on the ascendancy. Jack Kearney pointed with David O’Connor replying from a free. Good play for the winners by Killian Barrow and Jack Kearney led to a well taken point by Conor Murphy. Diarmuid O’Sullivan was denied by the post before the same player set up Tony Brennan who made 1-8 to 0-3. Jerome Murphy pointed after a four man attack and when Jack Kearney goaled in the 28th minute Kilshannig were 2-9 to 0-3 clear. Diarmuid O’Sullivan added a late point with David O’Connor having a late goal for the Duhallow side who trailed at the break 2-10 to 1-3.

The expected Boherbue challenge on the restart was quick to ignite. They came close to an early goal when David O’Connor was put through only to be denied by a splendid save by Chris Taylor. Bryan Herlihy pointed and David O’Connor with a point in the 33rd minute had the lead down to 8 points 2-10 to 1-5. Kilshannig keeper Chris Taylor was again to his sides rescue when Hugh Pat O’Connor put David O’Connor through only to be denied by a point blank save.

Boherbue had broken the strangleho­ld at midfield and were in regular attack. They forced a penalty taken by Ross O’Connor, Chris Taylor saved but O’Connor netted from the rebound. A foul on Diarmuid O’Sullivan led to a Darragh O’Sullivan pointed free. In the 40th minute Boherbue forced another penalty when David O’Connor was brought down. David O’Connor goaled and Kilshannig’s lead was down to 3 points 2-11 to 3-5. Kilshannig rallied well. Good play out of defence by Colm O’Shea to Kieran Twomey and Darragh O’Sullivan led to a brilliant point by Diarmuid O’Sullivan.

Boherbue came close to a fourth goal when Bryan Herlihy and Brian Murphy combined for David O’Connor who was denied by Chris Taylor. This save lifted the Kilshannig onslaught. Conor McMahon broke up a very good Boherbue attack. In the 47th minute David O’Connor placedBrya­n Herlihy for a great point 2-12 to 3-6. Kilshannig battled very hard. They introduced three late substitute­s. Two of them Eanna and James O’Hanlon had a point each while CJ O’Sullivan and Diarmuid O’Sullivan swapped a late point as Kilshannig held out to reach the final.
