Duhallow Players send out a call for recruits
ALTHOUGHT the Duhallow Players drama group was only founded last December they have already made their mark this year, celebrating the centenary of the 1916 Rising with a performance of Bryan McMahon’s ‘ The Bugle in the Blood’ which went down a treat with audiences in Duhallow.
This week, they held their AGM which elected Mary O’Sullivan as Chairperson, Éilis Hourigan as Secretary and PRO and Jo Allen as Treasurer.
Now, with the nights getting longer, they are preparing for a busy schedule ahead.
On October 28 they will take part in ‘Newmarket’s Got Talent’ which will be held at Meelin Hall. This is all in aid of Newmarket Boys NS. In addition, the Duhallow Players will also run a number of free workshops and are also aiming to tread the boards again in the spring with another play.
With this in mind, they are actively seeking new members from the wider Duhallow area to swell the ranks.
“It’s a great way to pass the winter, and an even better way to make new friends. We hope to get a good few new people in this year and they can be assured of a very warm and friendly welcome’ said Éilis Hourigan.
With regards to their drama workshops, it’s their hope they will actively encourage new members to join. Activities will include mime, movement, voice, theatre, games and other theatre-related activities.
As Eilis noted, workshops are great fun, participation is free, no experiences is necessary and there isn’t any age barrier.
“The first workshop will be scheduled shortly and will be under the supervision of Michael O’Halloran, an experienced director, actor and drama facilitator,” she said.
