Scouts kick of year with overnight at the rugby club

-

THE Kanturk Scout Group started their year’s activities at the weekend in the Kanturk Rugby Club where, luckily, the weather was kind enough to allow the Cubs to get their six tents up before the rain - the final tent was pitched with the help of the headlights of a leader’s car.

The Beavers selected their sleeping areas in the warmth of the clubhouse; spreading out their mats and sleeping bags in a multitude of colours, before playing games in the rugby pitch, dreams of Kanturk and Munster rugby greats going through their minds.

The Cub Sections Sixers (boys and girls who have completed their leader training) used their talents to light the fire before cub leader Liam ran the campfire with songs, marshmallows dipped in chocolate and hilarious activities.

Then everyone went back indoors to quench their thirsts and devour 50 snack boxes of sausages, nuggets and chips; thank you to Buckley’s Cafe for this wonderful feast.

While the beavers snuggled down for the night, the 22 Cubs and their hardy leaders camped out for the night. There was plenty of chitter chatter to be heard in the tents, with the older cubs telling stories and tall tales to the big group of first time campers.

Breakfast at seven bells brought out a few weary heads, but with work to be done, everyone perked up and dropped their tents for a 9.30am departure.

A massive thank you to all leaders, parents, Kanturk Rugby Club and especially the Beavers and Cubs for turning up in such large numbers for this annual event in Kanturk Rugby Club.
