Shock at sudden death of Seanie

THERE was a great sense of shock and sadness in the Mitchelsto­wnGlanwort­h area on Sunday morning, September 25 when news broke of the untimely death of Seanie O’Brien at Cork University Hospital.

The late Seanie had been at a family wedding on the Saturday but suffered a fatal fall when he returned home that night.

His popularity was borne out in the very large and representa­tive attendance at the removal on Tuesday evening from the Chapel of Rest, Baldwin St, Mitchelsto­wn to Curraghaga­lla Church and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Wednesday. Interment took place to the Cemetery adjoining Mitchelsto­wn Parish Church.

A guard of honour was present as the coffin left the Chapel of Rest by Fianna Fail members, members of Glanworth GAA and many work colleagues.

The late Seanie had been employed at Galtee Foods up to the time of his retirement as a manager. He was very well known in political circles.

He played football and hurling for his native Glanworth and played Minor football for Cork in the 1963. In 1990 at the age of 45 he captained Glanworth Junior B hurlers to county honours.

He served as selector and coached a number of Glanworth teams.

In recent years he was employed in Market Research by Behaviour & Attitudes.

To his son Dermot, daughter Bernadette (Enright) wife Olive, Dermot’s partner Nollaigh, son in law Raymond, grandchild­ren Cara, Saoirse, Paraic, and Katie, brothers Liam, James, sisters Mary (Fahy) Ann (O’Connor) Noeleen (McNamara) sisters in law, brothers in law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends we tender our sincere sympathy.

THE LATE MICHAEL BURKE

THE death occurred on September 26 of Michael (Mike) Burke 38 Linden Hill, Mitchelsto­wn at Cork University Hospital.

The late Michael, who was very popular had been in ill health for a while. His popularity was borne out in the very large and represente­d attendance at the funeral on Wednesday evening from the Chapel of Rest, Baldwin St, to the Parish Church on Thursday for Requiem Mass and burial. Interment took place to Brigown New Cemetery.

To his wife Noreen (Tattan) sons Michael, Owen, daughters Illisha and Aideen (Cunningham) grandchild­ren Kayleigh, Emma, Darren Dwayne, daughter in law Sheila, son in law Martin, sisters Teresa (McDonnell) Bridget (Fitzgerald) Caroline ( White) brothers Patsy, Willie, Kenny, John, Dominic, Finbarr, Joe aunt Chrissie, brothers in law, sisters in law, Michael Mahon, Kate Hyland, nephews, nieces, relatives neighbours and a large circle of friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
