IT was a fantastic day for West Muskerry Athletic club on Sunday when they had the honour of hosting the County Junior and Senior and Juvenile Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships. A huge thank-you goes to Gus Murphy for use of his land to host the event and club members and friends of West Muskerry AC who helped in setting up the course.

In the Junior & U19 4,000m, Stephanie Cotter had a stormer of a race. In the first lap the pace was hot but she settled in with the leader. On the second lap she started to open up a 14-metre gap which the other athlete closed again. Stephanie then took off again and opened up a 30-metre gap and she sprinted home.

She was not only crowned County Junior Champion, she was also crowned County U19 Champion. Her teammate Stephanie O’Sullivan also competed in the Junior race and had a great race.

In the Girls U9 750m, Eabha Ní Conaola battled her way home in a very tight competition and finished in third. Her team mates were Rebecca O`Neill and Olivia Moynihan.

In the Boys U13 2,500m, all the West Muskerry Boys ran superb. Colm Gellispie who was running up an age was delighted with his fourth place medal and his team mates followed very closely behind and were rewarded for their efforts when they got the third team prize. The team were Colm Gellispie, Breandan O` Sullivan, Darren Moynihan, Macdara O’Conoala, Paul Downey, Dylan Defaoite and Rowan Mullane.
