Lots to cheer at Tidy Towns night
A FEEL-good factor surrounded the annual Millstreet Tidy Towns Awards presentation at a pleasant function hosted in the Clara Inn.
The enthusiastic Millstreet TTA earned an impressive six marks increase to 308. Marks are hard earned, the Millstreet Association thrilled with the rate of progress yet fully aware that challenges and great effort will be required to create a greater impression.
Chairman Derry Sheehan spoke of the delight on a positive feedback from the 2016 adjudication.
“Its not before time for we were deserving of recognition, to add extra marks is not easy and its not about just picking up litter. To make further progress will demand that extra effort and the help from across the community”, he said.
Reflecting on the 2016 adjudication and to add marks in specific areas, Millstreet TTA will need to target community involvement in addition to wildlife, habitat and natural amenity. Thanks were extended to all involved on helping achieve an exceptional mark at litter control with thanks extended to FAS, Millstreet Mens Shed, Millstreet Streetscapes, Millstreet Macra and Millstreet Camogie Club.
Ongoing projects saw the initiating of wild flower beds in Millstreet Town Park, a woodland area in Millstreet Community School, Information signs on the Clara Loop with a number of other potential developments under consideration.
The Millstreet Awards function saluted local effort, best Commercial Frontage was awarded to O’Leary Family Butchers with Garden of Eve highly commended.
Taking the Best Town House were Michael and Joan Sheehan, Minor Row, earning high commendation was Laurence McSweeney, Drishane Road.
And the Best Garden earned Pat and Carmel O’Sullivan, first place and a high commendation for Mary Cahill, Altamount.
