Milford need extra-time to triumph

Milford keeper Tomas O’Gorman made a point blank save from Dylan O’Callaghan. Both sides exchanged points with John Quinn having a goal for Kilshannig in the 19th minute 2-5 to 1- 4. Milford hit back with John W Watson and Michael Whelan impressive in defence.

Rory Biggane, Robbie Watson and Peter Kirwan having points as Milford came within a single point 2-5 to 1-7 after 24 minutes. Frank McCarthy had a long range point for Kilshannig with the same player putting Dylan O’Callaghan in for a fine point as Kilshannig moved 2-7 to 1-7 clear.

Bart Sexton with a long range point closed the gap. Kilshannig keeper Ciaran O’Connor saved well from Peter Kirwan. Late points by Robbie Watson and Declan Sexton had the sides level for the third time at half time 2-7 to 1- 10.

On the changeover Milford did well. They were on top in the half backline and a goal and three points in quick succession the goal by Peter Kirwan opened up a six point lead 2-13 to 2- 7.

Kilshannig forced a penalty when Frank McCarthy was fouled and Dylan O’Callaghan made no mistake. Points by Denis Clogan and Dylan O’Callaghan closed the gap to a single point 2-13 to 3-9 entering the final quarter.

Both sides exchanged a point with Peter Kirwan with a 50th minute point edging his side 2-15 to 3-10 clear. Kilshannig battled back well, they had a point by Dylan O’Callaghan. Milford seemed on their way for a win with two rapid points. In the 60th minute John Quinn levelled with a goal 2-17 to 4-11 at full time.

Extra-time prevailed. Kilshannig took the lead by John Quinn. Milford forced level by Robbie Watson. In the closing moments Peter Kirwan and Dylan O’Callaghan exchanged a point that had them level at half time in extra time 2-19 to 4- 13.

On the changeover Milford did well. Ian Carroll had an early goal and Declan Sexton pointed 3-20 to 4-13. Kilshannig had just a single point in this period by Dylan O’Callaghan. Milford held out for a win and a semi final meeting with their neighbours Newtownsha­ndrum this Sunday in Dromina.
