Ovens to host Scór na nÓg annual general meeting

GAA Clubs and divisional delegates from throughout the county will convene for the AGM of Cork County Scór at the Éire Óg GAA Pavillion, Ovens on this Thursday night commencing with Mass at 8pm.

Scór is the cultural wing of the GAA and the upcoming forum will see the Cork body analyse its diverse programme of the past year and look ahead to entering a new season with confidence

Initiated in North Cork by Fermoy’s Derry Gowen, Scór’s diverse activity provides a platform for clubs and members nationwide to display their interest in Irish culture and heritage. Reflecting on the past year, the positive status of Scór in Cork emerged on the county yielding an assortment of accolades in a vibrant campaign.

Cork clubs enjoyed terrific success at provincial level in Scór na nÓg, Boherbue Figure Dancers hit winning ways as did Laura Whelan from Lisgoold at recitation. Meanwhile Boherbue captured Cork’s only third provincial honour in set dancing at senior Scór, back to back titles adds to the Youghal victory from 1975.

Also on the Munster circuit, Kilworth’s Joe Aherne emerged best at recitation with a powerful piece titled “Dóchas” . And Cork supporters saluted a Youghal Instrument­al Music Group who took delight from their selection of jigs and reels.

At domestic level, Boherbue’s consistenc­y emerge popular winners of the Paddy Carroll Memorial Cup as Best Scór club in the county in a league competitio­n based on participat­ion and success at underage and adult level. For their consistenc­y, Tadhg MacCarthai­gh secured the best overall club in Scór na nOg.

Dates confirmed for the new season are County Scór na nÓg Finals on Saturday, December 3.
