LISCARROLL AC

Last Sunday some of our juveniles took to the fields in the Cork County Uneven Age Cross Country. Many were in for a surprise in the girls under 9 race when two girls only a short time with the club came hone in first and second place.

Sarah Finnegan was the winner and was followed closely by her twin sister Lauren. They were going so well at the end, that they could have gone around the course again. Well done girls.

Shona Murphy who only started with the club a week earlier was in 39th place and Ella Lawlee not far behind. At the end it was hoped that as a team, they might qualify for third team place, but they were just eight points out.

Colin Sheehan competed in the boys under 9 race but even though running well, was not in the medals.

Orlaith O’Sullivan, under 11 is improving with every outing, but was not in the medals.

Johnny Murphy under 11 finished fourth in the boys race, and earned himself a medal and a place in the Cork team for Munsters and All-Irelands.

Sean Byrne who is only a couple of weeks in the club ran very well but was outside the medals.

Aoife O’Sullivan up an age at u15 is also improving with each outing finishing in 13th place.

Earlier in the week, Aoife had competed in the Munster Schools Combined events at CIT where she won a bronze medal representing St Mary’s School, Mallow at minor level.

Vickie Cusack won her event at intermediate level and was followed home closely by Sarah O’Keeffe to win bronze for David College, Mallow.

All three athletes have now qualified for the All-Ireland schools finals in a few weeks time.
