Lady Luck smiles on lotto winners

THE WINNING FAMILY PICKED UP THEIR CHEQUE FOR €500,000 FROM LOTTO

- MARIA HERLIHY

IT was a “family day out” for one big happy family who bought a winning €500,000 euro millions ticket in Supervalu in Macroom who picked up their hefty cheque at the Lottery headquarters in Dublin last Thursday.

The winning family who wish to remain private spoke about their pure joy after scooping the incredible cash prize in the Friday, October 14 draw.

They only found out about their win when promoted to check their tickets after seeing a post on social media.

“We were at home on the Saturday when my wife excitedly asked me where I had bought our Euro millions ticket. There was a post on Facebook which said that the Supervalu in Macroom had sold the winning tickets, so I gave it to her to check on the National Lottery website. A couple of minutes later she let out a shout to say that we had won,” said the smiling hubby.

“It never registered with me that we had won the half a million euro prize. I asked her how much we had won, thinking it would be a couple of hundred euro. Not believing it to be true, we spent the next hour double checking our numbers just to make sure,” he said.

According to the man’s wife, it could have been a very different story for the family had the hubby not been “constantly reminded to play the plus option on the euro million ticket.

“We would be regular Euro millions players but my husband doesn’t always include the plus option on our tickets so I have to keep reminding him all the time.

“Thank God, he picked the Plus this time,” she said while grinning.
