-

THE 2016 Shane Murphy Memorial Poc Fada was launched in Macroom Credit Union this week. Members of the Murphy family and Aoife Lucey, accompanied by her father Jim and members of Laochra Óg Hurling and Camogie Club, were present at the event.

Tony Hughes, along with Diarmuid McCarthy, welcomed everyone to the launch on behalf of Macroom Credit Union who also sponsored the event last year.

The Poc Fada takes place on Sunday, November 27, at 12noon. Proceeds from this year’s event go to Aoife Lucey and The Children’s Leukaemia Association.

Further details and online registration can be found at www.laochraog.com.

Meanwhile, in keeping with the Poc Fada theme, the U13 Poc Fada competition took place in Teerbeg this week.

This year the club added a new skill , ‘Poc is Tapula’ or fastest shot, with the scores combined.

A great and very interesting battle developed with pucs of over 60 metres and pucs over 60 miles per hour.

The scores were so close that there was a tie for first place and the day had to be decided with a play-off with Brian Healy victorious, followed by Eoin Healy in second and Ben Lyons in third place.

Well done to all the lads for a very entertaining event.

On Sunday Laochra Óg Camogie team played an U13 challenge match away to Inniscarra. Fielding a very young side the team played really well, putting in great tackles and solo runs.

The girls’ skills have certainly come on leaps and bounds for a team in its first year. The club wants to thank Inniscarra Camogie Club for a very sporting competitive match and excellent facilities on hand.

They also thanked parents for sending and getting their children to Inniscarra, as well as team sponsors Colm O’Sullivan and Macroom Tidy Towns Committee.
