OUR school hosted our Open Evening recently, for girls interested in attending the school in the future, along with their parents.

Both the teachers and students in the school organised the evening to ensure that the school’s many achievements – both in academic and extracurricular activities – were on display for our visitors.

Transition Years were very involved in this event in that a PR committee took video footage of first year students engaged in activities in their many subject areas over several weeks before the Open Evening.

We were then ably assisted by Mr Vaughan who expertly edited the footage for us.

Our video was presented on the night, along with a speech by first year students Saorlaith O’Leary and Ciara Quinn who spoke on each of their subjects to help give advice to our future new intakes.

As senior students, we also acted as couriers on the night and took groups of prospective students and their parents on a tour of the school, stopping in each room along the way.

From calligraphy in the art room and groups performing songs in the music room, to impressive experiments in the science labs, there was a wide variety of activities that were enjoyed by all.

The tours ended in the home economics kitchen where the visitors were treated to delightful helpings of food which was freshly prepared on the evening.

We hope that the event was beneficial to the girls considering St Mary’s Secondary School.

As a student body, we take great pride in our school and enjoy promoting it on a night such as the Open Evening.
