Macroom AFC U12 girls collect deserved first win

MACROOM AFC U12 girls took on Park Utd in Murrayfiel­d on Saturday morning, with many playing competitiv­e soccer for the first time, and they picked up their first win of the season

Macroom started brightly, creating plenty of chances but couldnt take them until Aimee Twomey opened the scoring.

With Macroom making wholesale changes, the girls continued to probe and Leanne Healy capped off a fine performanc­e with two goals . Final result: Macroom 3 Park Utd 0 Meanwhile in the Oriel House Under 13 League, on Sunday, the final result was Blarney Utd A 5, Macroom A 3. The lads had a lot of possession but missed a flurry of chances and then were twice caught on the break late on.

Macroom B qualified for the semi final of the President’s Cup, thanks to a thrilling 4-3 extra time win over Grattan Utd.

In a very even game, the city side took the lead on 20 minutes. Macroom equalised from a Barry Kelleher penalty 10 minutes later. Midway through the second period Cathal O’ Riordan’s through ball was rifled home by Kelleher. Grattan levelled from a corner just two minutes later.

With only five minutes of normal time left, Sean Quinn’s opportunis­tic effort found its way to the net. But Grattan equalised from the penalty spot in injury time to force a further 20 minutes.

The decider came with three minutes remaining as Barry Kelleher secured his hat trick.

Adult Teams:

Bweeng Celtic v Macroom B, South Coast Athletic v Temple Utd. Macroom A were eliminated from the Linnane League cup following a 3-1 home defeat to a talented Knocknahee­ny side at Murrayfiel­d.

President’s Cup Semi Final Draw:

Macroom hosted Kinsale at Murrayfiel­d with the point gained taking the home side clear at the top.

U16 Div 1 Macroom 2-2 Kinsale:

Fermoy 0-2 Macroom: The long trip to Fermoy was worthwhile as the U13s secured an excellent victory. This was a fantastic performanc­e from the whole squad. Brian Healy was on target, firing a goal in each half as Macroom qualified for the next round.

U13 Con Elliot Cup, U15 Premier, Macroom 4-0 Castleview:

Northside club Castleview visited the Town Park and were well beaten by an impressive Macroom side. The coaching team was delighted with an all round performanc­e. Goalscorer­s: Daniel Cotter (2), Cormac Buckley and Stephen O’ Donoghue.

The Under 7s and 8s Academy is in full swing with the last month. Head coach, John Ronan, would like to inform parents of a change to the weekly training sessions. This is due to the large numbers of players. The sessions will move to Saturday mornings at Clondrohid Astro. Under 7s (born 2010) will train from 10am-11am and Under 8s (born 2009) will train from 11am-12 noon.
