WITH construction activity continuing to rise at its fastest pace in almost a decade, the Millstreet Self Build Show brought a large attendance to the Green Glens Complex last weekend.

There is a definite pick up in construction to home renovations, the Millstreet show offered diverse features, from building a new home to improvements in addition to parading new products and technologies to enable and promote sustainable building practices throughout Ireland.

Interior and Exterior Design caught the eye as did guidelines on Energy Saving Tips and Advice, Garden and Outdoor Living Zone with a seminar programme each day.

Indeed the Garden and Outdoor living zone proved popular, the Artificial Grass Company offered the chance to enjoy grass areas 365 days a year no matter what the weather with a huge green garden zone at the show.

Els Clive Corry, Chairman of SelfBuild Ireland, spoke of the show offering quality specialists and exhibitors, plenty of advice with live demonstrations on view to meet the demands.

“Following on from the huge success of last year’s staging, we were committed to building a bigger and better show in 2016 for all the self-builders of Munster”, he said.

“We were delighted to have such a wide and expert range of exhibitors here over the two days of the show, promoting local businesses and showcasing the outstanding talent and innovation which is right on our doorstep”, he said.

The show featured over 20 speakers in three separate theatres enthusiastically plying their audience with expert hints, tips and advice on specific and relevant home building topics.

The hugely popular Garden Zone will be packed with new ideas on how to improve your outdoor space.

New to the show this year was a Kitchen Design Clinic and an Interior Design Clinic where eight professional designers were on hand to give independent and honest advice.

The 1-1 Construction Design and Advice Clinics were back for another year to help new house builders with the right advice on their project.

Also available were a prototype of the newest architectural technology available to self-builders. This latest development allows self-builders to virtually walk around their new homes using a headset, even before the first brick has been laid - home sweet virtual home.
