Buttevant book final date to give Bantry the blues

BUTTEVANT underage success continued on Saturday last when their Under 16 B footballers advanced to the County league final following their win over Bantry Blues in a high scoring semi-final in Kilmurry.
Already Buttevant won the County MFC(2) title and are in the Under 15 County FC final this week end. They also reached the County Under 16 C HC where they lost out. Saturday’s game produced nine goals.
Bantry opened with a Tom Flynn point. The Avondhu side replied with a Michael O’Neill point. Bantry Blues had a goal by Kevin Clifford after good work by Jack O’Brien. Good play for Buttevant by Michael O’Neill and Gavin Carey led to a goal by Mark Lenahan 1-1 each.
Gavin Carey followed with a goal. Tom Flynn netted for Bantry. Just before halftime Paddy Holmes found the net for the Avondhu side. Bantry Blues held an interval lead 4-3 to 4-2.
Gavin Carey levelled on the restart. Good play by Conor Stanners led to a lead point by Mark Lenahan. Bantry Blues made some good attacks but Buttevant held firm with Michael Walsh in great form at full-back.
The Carbery side moved 4-6 to 4-4 clear. Points by Gavin Carey and Michael O’Neill levelled at 4-6 each. A good movement started by Gavin Carey, Daniel Keane, Paddy Holmes led to the inrushing Keane getting through for a well taken goal 5-6 to 4-6.
Bantry replied with a point. Buttevant finished very strong using the short passing at speed. They had three late points by Mark Lenahan (two frees) and Paddy Holmes that set them on their way to a county final meeting with Glanmire this weekend.
