Exciting JBFL final clash promised between Kanturk and Newmarket

- BY JOHN TARRANT

KANTURK and Newmarket seek out late season silverware on their clash in the Duhallow Junior B Football League Group 2 Final at Boherbue on Sunday.

This is likely to be a great battle for supremacy with both sides coming into the contest with plenty of momentum behind them.

A high scoring first half set Newmarket on their way to overcome Freemount in their semi final.

Never headed, Newmarket had this game well and truly won by half time, slick and efficient in every aspect of their effort to secure a comprehensive triumph. Indeed Newmarket tore into the fray from the outset, Robert Stack and Michael Cottrell dominating midfield to lay off terrific ball to a potent and enterprising attack.

Goals from Ryan O’Keeffe, Daniel Culloty, Stack and Tony O’Keeffe confirmed Newmarket’s supremacy. However Newmarket’s hopes for Sunday are dampened on an injury that rules Culloty out of the equation.

For their part, a dominant second half helped Kanturk comfortably account for Millstreet in the second semi final. Taking victory, Kanturk did so with a powerfully structured display on the resumption.

Millstreet had looked well place in the opening half, building from the back, they shaded the play to enjoy a 0-9 to 0-7 lead at the break. However the balance swung very much to Kanturk on the resumption, Eoghan O’Connor, Kevin Smith, Ronan O’Brien and Donough Duane powered into the fray. That allowed ample possession into the attack for Duane and Alan O’Keeffe point with Olan Daly posting a pair of goals to confirm the win.

On paper, this is a contest that promises wholehearted endeavour yet Kanturk appear to possess talent in every line that looks good enough to succeed. THE Kanturk Credit Union Duhallow Scór na nÓg Final goes ahead on Sunday, November 27 in the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk at 5pm.

Competitors must be under 17 years of age on January 1st, 2017 with the extensive schedule focusing on figure/set dancing, solo singing, recitation, novelty act, instrumental music and ballad groups.

Looking ahead, national school kids interested in swinging to the tune of polkas, preparing sketches to singing and reciting are catered in Scór na bpaistí. Entries can be forwarded to Duhallow Scór Secretary Julie O’Connor.
