PATRICK O’SULLIVAN AND FRIENDS IN KILWORTH

POPULAR Irish country singer Patrick O’Sullivan will bring his ‘Roads to a Friend’s House’ show to the Village Arts Centre in Kilworth tonight (Thursday.

Since winning the 2009 TG4 ‘Glór Tire’ competitio­n the Ballingear­y native has enjoyed a hugely successful career, touring extensivel­y across Ireland and the UK.

A talented vocalist and accordion player, O’Sullivan has written numerous songs including ‘ The Time That God Sends’, which has been recorded by Mike Denver and others.

He will be joined on stage for his Kilworth show by Conor O’Sullivan, Karina Wilson and special guest Paddy O’Brien.

SHOCKING SOUNDS FROM JAPAN LIVE AT FRED’S

JAPANESE garage rock band Electric Eel Shock will play a free gig at Fred Zeppelins in Cork City on Sunday night.

Formed in Tokyo last 1990’s the band left Japan at the end of the millennium to conquer the rest of the world, touring more than 30 countries and picking up and ever increasing and loyal fan base.

Over that time the band have headlined festivals across Europe, played gigs in almost every state of the US and released eight critically acclaimed albums.

Their latest European tour is in support of the bands newly released ninth LP, their firs collection completely new tracks for almost seven years.

KILBURN KINGS SPINNING YARNS AT THE EVERYMAN

THE Everyman Palace Theatre is set to hold a five-night run of Jimmy Murphy’s thought-provoking play ‘ The Kings of the Kilburn High Road’ from next Monday.

Set in the mid 1970’s, the poignant play tells the story of a group of young men who left the West of Ireland to seek their fortune in London and return home as rich men.

A quarter of a century later only one of them, Jackie Flavin, makes it home - but only in a coffin.

‘Kings’ sees the remaining quartet meet up for a drink in Jackie’s memory and looks at their lives, lost dreams and how they view their place in the new Ireland.

THE NUALAS SET TO EASE THOSE WINTER BLUES

FEMALE comedy trio The Nualas will bring their ‘Glitterbom­b’ tour to the Riverside Park Hotel in Macroom on Friday night.

Described as a cross between Little Mix, The Nolan’s and The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Nualas are marking 21-years of performing their unique mix of quirky songs and provocativ­e perspectiv­e on everything from spanx to global apocalypse.

During that time they have play venues across the globe, appeared on numerous TV shows, released a video and were named one of the top acts at the Edinburgh fringe.

Their new show features a heady mix of mew and not so new material that is guaranteed to get the audience buzzing.

TRAD LEGENDS MICK AND DÓNAL LIVE AT DE BARRA

TWO true legends of the Irish traditiona­l music scene, Mick Hanly and Dónal Lunny will perform together on the stage of De Barra’s Acoustic Club on Sunday evening.

It is almost inevitable that two artists whose careers have intertwine­d many times of more than four decades would sooner or later come together as a musical duo.

The combinatio­n of multi-instrument­alist Hanly and composer Lunny is a musical marriage made in musical heaven, with both having honed their musical skills to perfection.

Together, they play music with a freshness and enthusiasm that belies their years on the road.

JOHN BOWMAN TO TALK ABOUT HIS NEW 1916 BOOK

THE distinguis­hed historian, broadcaste­r and author John Bowman will be at the Ballymaloe Grainstore in Shanagarry this evening (Thursday) to deliver a talk on his latest book.

John’s talk will be based on the extensive research he undertook for the book ‘Ireland: The Autobiogra­phy- 100-Years of Irish Life as Told by its People’.

Critically acclaimed and short-listed in the ‘Non-Fiction Book of the Year’ in the 2016 Irish Book Awards, the book incorporat­es 170 documents capturing the flavour of Irish life over the past century since the 1916 Rising.

These include private letters, unpublishe­d diaries, cabinet papers and writings by people from all strands of Irish society.

Admission to the talk will be €10.

TONY SHOWING HIS FANS THE WAY AT THE INEC

VETERAN British crooner Tony Christie will be back on Irish soil this Friday when he takes to the stage for at gig at the INEC in Killarney.

Most people will know Christie for his hit song ‘Is This the Way to Amarillo’, which hit the top of the singles charts in the UK in the 1970’s and again in 2005 following its re-release for Comic Relief.

However, over a career spanning more than four decades Christie has released almost 30 studio and compilatio­n albums and had hits with songs including ‘Avenues and Alleyways’, ‘Drive Safely Darling’ and ‘I Did What I Did For Maria.’

In recent years his music has found an audience with younger listeners, seeing Christie perform at festivals including Glastonbur­y.

SIBLINGS DISCUSSING THE DEBRIS OF THEIR LIVES

THE Cork Arts Theatre is currently hosting a production of Dennis Kelly’s bitter-sweet play ‘Debris’.

The one-act play delves into the lives of brother and sister Michael and Michelle, played by James De Burca and Una O’Brien, who try to make sense of their dysfunctio­nal childhood.

They delight, scare and entertain each other and the audience throughout, recreating stories and exploring a host of characters from their past.

Alternativ­ely dark, hilarious, frightenin­g and loving, the play manages to walk a dramatic tightrope keeping audiences guessing until the final scene.

ANOTHER JOHN B CLASSIC AT THE GLEN THEATRE

THE penultimat­e performanc­e of the Glen Theatre Drama Groups production of John B Keane’s classic play ‘ The Chastitute’ will take place at the Banteer venue on Sunday evening.

The play revolves around the life of Bosco McLaine and how a combinatio­n of religiousl­y inspired sexual guilt, social ineptitude and simple bad luck have condemned him to a life of celibacy.

Though a series of flashbacks, imaginings and real events the 20-strong cast, led by Martin O’Riordan in the central role, recalls Bosco’s often hapless encounters with the opposite sex.
