PLENTY OF ELBOW ROOM FOR A PICTURE PERFECT MARQUEE

- BILL BROWNE

THE line-up for the 2017 Live at the Marquee music festival is already beginning to take shape with a raft of acts unveiled for next summer’s extravaganza.

Now on its 12th outing, Live at the Marquee has gone from strength-to-strength, with a veritable ‘who’s who’ of top Irish and international acts have graced the Docklands stage over the years.

Marquee 2016 looks like it will continue in the same vein, with Aiken Promotions already having already unveiled a host of tops names that will grace the stage of the Dockland’s venue next June and July.

Due to huge demand Irish duo Picture This will play two nights at the Marquee on June 9 and 10 as part of their UK and Irish tour. By any measure it has been a phenomenal year for Jimmy Rainsford sand Ryan Hennessey who signed a deal with Republic Records, released a chart-topping EP and played a sell-out Irish tour.

Having played the Marquee in 2014 the ‘King of Pop’, the evergreen Cliff Richard will return to the Venue on June 15 with his ‘Just Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll’ tour.

Indeed, he will not be the only artist returning to the Marquee in 2017, with Elton John and his Band bringing their ‘Wonderful Crazy Night’ tour to Cork on June 20, Marquee favourites The Coronas playing the venue on June 30 and ‘Wagon Wheel’ singer Nathan Carter taking to the stage on June 30.

In the past week alone another two acts have been added to the line-up, providing those stuck for Christmas present ideas the perfect opportunity to make someone’s Yuletide season that little bit more special.

It’s looking like June 21 will be a beautiful day for fans of festival favourites Elbow who, having sold out the Marquee in 2014, will return fresh with a bunch of new tracks from their eagerly anticipated seventh studio album ‘Little Fictions’.

Another popular addition to the lineup is Dubliner Gavin James who, having made his Marquee debut this year, will take to the stage of the venue once again on July 7.
