Charleville CCTV system ready to go out to tender
THE value of CCTV cameras placed at strategic locations around the town was graphically illustrated at the launch of such a system for Fermoy town last week when members of Charleville Chamber, including Cllr. Ian Doyle, saw for themselves the effectiveness of the cameras, and heard from Sgt. James Hallahan and Sgt, John Kelly of the benefits of the system in terms of crime solving and prevention.
A similar system is envisaged for Charleville and the present status is that all the preliminary arrangements with ESB, Gardai, County Council and property owners are now in place and the installation of the system is ready to go to tender.
Speaking in Fermoy, Cllr. Ian Doyle, who is chairman of Fermoy Municipal District Council, said that the CCTV will help retail security and protect our street environment in Charleville. “The initiative is supported by Fermoy Municipal District of Cork County Council through the Town Development Fund and Joint Policing Committee and Divisional Officer of An Garda Siochana, along with Charleville Chamber,” said Cllr. Doyle.
P. J. McCarthy, President of Charleville Chamber, who is facilitating the CCTV project said, the camera system is now ready to go to tender and when this process is completed, the installation is due to commence in early 2017. “Up to ten cameras will be located at different points around the town and will provide 24-hour security against traffic violations, public order offences, theft, etc. The system will be monitored from the local Garda Station,” he said.
