TOWNS across the country have faced up to challenging financial times using every tool and initiative at their disposals to ensure that they not only survive but position themselves to take full advantage as the economy finally shows signs of picking up.

Fermoy is one such example of a town that refused to be bowed by tougher times and instead took full advantage of the many good things that the town has to offer locals and visitors alike. And it paid off.

Now more than ever our towns need to provide a range of options for shoppers combined with friendly and efficient service to make sure that they remain vibrant and exciting places to be.

Over the years Fermoy has been a town that has proven to be forward thinking in terms undertaking initiatives and projects that made it a place people want to live in, work in and visit.

At this time of the year Fermoy’s well earned reputation as a shopping and commercial centre for the North Cork region is never more evident as it gears up to welcome people over the festive period.

It shops are bursting with items that will fill even the most demanding of Christmas stockings.

The sense of goodwill that only Christmas can bring filters through the entire retail and hospitality sector which has always held its customers in high value.

Business people are looking forward to welcoming visitors into their shops, pubs and restaurants and affording them the kind of friendly and efficient service that the North Cork region has become renowned for.

Locals also have a role to plan in keeping the town a vibrant place by shopping locally to keep existing jobs, create new ones and play their part in giving Fermoy the edge over other towns across the region.

Of course, in recent years locals have shown they have what it takes to create and maintain a thriving community, with the various businesses, social and sporting organisations all pulling together to raise the profile of the town.
